CYLIC POLYOLEFINS. XXIX. CYCLOOCTATETRAENE DERIVATIVES FROM COPOLYMERIZATION AND SIDE CHAIN MODIFICATION

Abstract

New cyclooctatetraenes were prepared by copolymerization of acetylene with monosubstituted acetylenes or by reactions of functional groups in the side chains of the cyclooctatetraenes. The derivatives included gamma cyclooctatetraenylpropyl alcohol from 4-pentyn-1-ol, gamma- cyclooctatetraenylpropyl cyanide from 5-hexynenitrile, cyclooctateraenylmethylcarbon from 3-butyn-2-ol, cyclooctatetraenyl methyl ketone from 3-butyn-2-one, cyclooctatetraenyldimethylcarbinol from 2-methyl-3- butyn-2-ol. Physical and chemical evidence of the structures were obtained.
