A STUDY OF SOME NEARLY OPTIMUM SERVO-MECHANISMS
Abstract
The theory of the proposed system was examined from the criteria of system equations, response, and switching for the idealized system. The effects of Coulomb and viscous friction were considered. Boundary location and shape were reviewed relative to system equations and response criteria. Two methods of converting the theoretical torque-reversal curve into a physical switching device are discussed. The direction of the torque applied to the output shaft is determined by a comparison of the error and the square of the error rate. The system quality is determined by the time required for the error to become zero after a step disturbance. A simple adjustment in the switching device makes viscous friction insignificant for small errors and permits a coulomb friction torgue up to 50%.
