QUARTERLY PROGRESS REPT. NO. 1

Abstract

Research is reported on the generation of high frequencies with respect to 22-vane magnetrons operating at 2.5 mm, 22-vane high-power magnetrons operating at 6 mm, 34-vane quasi-CW magnetrons operating at 1.06 cm, a magnetron space-charge experiment, large-ratio rising-sun magnetrons, low field operation of magnetrons, the generation of millimeter waves by Cerenkov radiation, and a molecular-beam oscillator. Millimeter wavemeters, crystal harmonic generators, and a 100-kc square-wave generator are described. Microwave physics studies are discussed which pertain to the hyperfine structure of the H atom, the fine structure of singly ionized He, nuclear quadrupole resonant lines, high-temperature microwave spectroscopy, a high-sensitivity Stark spectrometer, a high-resolution spectrometer, the microwave spectrum of the free OH radical, the microwave spectrum of HCN, the quadrupole coupling of S33, microwave spectra by means of a molecular-beam electric-resonance method, and the polymeric content of alkali halide beams.
