INTERACTION OF FAST ATOMS AND IONS WITH METAL SURFACES

Abstract

The target and collector designs are described for apparatus bu ilt for the measurement of the angular distribution of electrons emitted under bombardment. Measurements are also to be made to study the neutralization of ions incident at grazing angles down to several degrees. A major difficulty in carrying out the latter is in obtaining a well defined, sharp beam of ions without reducing the current below successful recording levels. Preliminary results obtained with electrostatic lenses were not promising.
