DETERMINATION OF INORGANIC PHOSPHATE IN SEA WATER BY A BUTANOL EXTRACTION PROCEDURE

Abstract

A method is described for determination of inorganic phosphate in sea water by extraction of the phosphomolybdate complex into iso-BuOH and reduction in the organic phase with SnClsub2. The method is more sensitive than those currently in use and has the same relative accuracy. Arsenic and silicate, in the amounts ordinarily encountered in sea water, do not interfere.
