THE EFFECT OF NON-RIGIDITY ON THE LINE STRENGTHS OF VIBRATIONAL- ROTATIONAL TRANSITIONS

Abstract

The effects of the difference in asymmetry H of the ground (g) and excited (e) states of a vibrational band on the line strengths of the vibrational-rotational transitions were investigated. The A- and C-type bands were found to enhance the line strength of P and R, respectively, with a sufficiently large delta H, depending on whether H sub g H sub e. Certain Q branch sub-bands were also enhanced under these conditions. Certain sub-bands in the P, Q, and R branches were enhanced in the B-type band.
