STUDIES ON THE PSITTACOSIS-LYMPHOGRANULOMA VENEREUM GROUP

Abstract

Surveys of 2 venereal disease clinics in Philadelphia indicated that 140 of the 270 patients were negative for both lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) and syphilis; 50 were positive for LGV and negative for syphilis; 30 were positive for syphilis and negative for LGV; and 7 were positive for both. Sera from 75 prostitutes in Jamaica were tested for antibodies to LGV, gonorrhea, and syphylis. Nineteen were positive for syphllis, 27 were positive for both. Sera from 382 Jamaican schoolchildren of ages before and after puberty were tested for LGV antibodies; only 1 LGV-positive and 1 LGV-suggestive sera were obtained. Good initial response to the treatment of LGV patients resulted with various drugs, with the exception of Magnamycin. (See also AD-3782)
