THE COMPARATIVE ANATOMY OF THE MOUTH PARTS OF MESOSTIGMATID MITES

Abstract

The mouth parts of mites of the suborder Mesostigmatid were studied to determine adaptations for feeding and the evolutionary trends involved. Laelaps microti were found to be the only endemic species known to possess a long grooved epipharynx which is in a position to penetrate the host during the feeding process.
