A PROPOSED EXPERIMENTAL SLED DESIGN

Abstract

The proposed sled provides for the interchangeability of the runners, the tongue assembly, and the fore and aft bunks. The reach poles and the stakes are stored in the bed of the sled for accessibility. The tongue is light and strong, and the hitch is designed to permit easy coupling. The sled will be inexpensive to build. It will have an 8- by 24-ft deck which can be modified to carry wanigans or loads of unusual length. Excessive delays caused by the coupling and uncoupling required in making turns or winching out of drifts will be avoided because of the improved design of the towing hitch, the provision for an underbelly shield, and improved steering. It is recommended that the sled be built and tested.
