SHIPBOARD OBSERVATION OF ELECTRONICS PERSONNEL. IMPLICATIONS FOR CERTAIN OPERATIONAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE PROBLEMS

Abstract

Detailed observations were made of the electronics personnel aboard 20 ships of the destroyer class. Reports are presented on the administrative control of the electronics technicians (ET) team; internal organization of the ET team; the leading ET's; the electronics material officer; the role of the officers from the Captain down through department and division officers; knowledge of ET's job; methods of relaying information; delegation of responsibilities toward equipment; combining ratings; materiel problems affecting maintenance; and personnel turnover in the Navy.
