DEVELOPMENT OF PROCESS FOR RAPID STABILIZATION OF BEACH SAND

Abstract

A continuous paving method was developed. A 1-mi 20-ft-wide 2- lane highway may be paved or stabilized with 10,000 gal of Plasmofalt emulsion. Plasmofalt has a low viscosity and may have applications in the manufacture of bitumnized fiber conduit, brake linings, and clutch facings, as well as for certain types of bituminized papers and willboards. Consideration is given to Plasmofalt as a soil conditioner. The development of a simple method of determining the approximate California Bearing Ratio of a subgrade was investigated. Plasmofalt does not aid in the correction of quicksand conditions but it may be useful for highways and buildings in permafrost regions.
