AN IMMUNOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OF THE HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS

Abstract

Cross-complement fixation tests indicated slight differences in the titer of hyperimmune guinea pig sera against LF, Z, and EB strains of the Herpes simplex virus. Human sere showed marked differences among these 3 and 5 other strains. Hyperimmune guinea pig sera were adsorbed with crude infective mouse- brain suspensions and tested for neutralizing antibodies in mice and chick embryos. Neutralizing antibodies were removed or greatly reduced, and no antigenic differences were indicated among the 3 strains.
