BIOLOGY AND HOST RELATIONSHIPS OF TROMBICULID MITES

Abstract

A study was made of the trombiculid mites (chiggers) of central US. Reports are presented concerning the collecting and recording methods, attached larvae, chigger sampling, recovery of adults, culture methods, the mass culture, key to larval chiggers, host-chigger lists, habitat of active larval chiggers, chigger-host relationships, life history studies, morphological studies of postlarval stages, and internal morphologyand histology of adults. Data are presented concerning the species of the following genera: Trombicula, Euschongastia, Neoschongastia, Speleocola, Pseudoschongastia, Walchia, Acomatacarus, Cheladonta, Leeuwenhoekia, and Hannemania.
