NORTH ATLANTIC OCEANOGRAPHY

Abstract

Cruises of the Atlantis, Kevin Moran, Caryn, Bear, USS Atka, and USS Edisto are reported. The publication of the 200-m temperature chart of the North Atlantic is discussed. The chart is expected to serve as the starting point in the development of synoptic oceanography. A discussion is presented of the possibility of correlating major, visual slick patterns and changes in the sea state and cloud cover with the sea-surface temperature and current patterns. Descriptions are also presented of the ice reconnaissance program of Iceland and the development of oceanographic instruments.
