Paper-Pencil Laboratory Achievement Tests in Physics

Abstract

A list is presented of specific skills and abilities associated with laboratory instruction in elementary physics. The list served as a guide in the construction of a number of multiple-choice laboratory tests in mechanics, heat, sound, and electricity. The individual tests are described, and typical items from each test are reproduced. Some of the tests were tried on students in 3 elementary physics courses at the University of Minnesota. The frequency distributions of scores are given.
