SURVEY OF BOTTOM SEDIMENTS IN CERTAIN COASTAL AREAS
Abstract
A description is presented of the bottom sediments of a selected list of coastal areas. The selected areas are the British Isles and vacinity, the French west approaches, the Baltic Sea area, the White Sea area, the United States east coast and approaches to the Panama Canal, the Yellow and China Sea areas, and the Mediterranean Sea area. The areas covered by the bottom sediment charts are shown on a world index map; a numerical listing of the bottom sediment charts is given in an appendix. A list of harbors are also included which are under investigation by the inshore survey branch of the US Navy Hydrographic Office. Existing oceanographic information on foreign harbors is also appended. A sample hydrographic oceanographic data sheet is enclosed for Vladivostok, USSR.
