The Thermal Decomposition of Nitroguanidine

Abstract

The gaseous products of the thermal decomposition of nitroguanidine have been quantitatively analysed. Nitrous oxide, ammonia, water and some carbon dioxide were found. Various properties of the thermal decomposition have been determined, and a mechanism for decomposition proposed. The kinetic rate equation for the thermal decomposition of nitroguanidine has been determined. It appears that the nitroguanidine surface is poisoned by either gaseous or solid decomposition products.
