A Variable Inductance Acceleration Transducer

Abstract

The type IT 1-22F-31 transducer was designed for vibration measurements and resonance testing of aircraft on the ground and in flight. The ranges of the instrument are + or - 3 g and + or - 9 g, but it may be adapted for ranges up to about + or - 100 g. The transducer is used with the carrier bridge amplifiers types IT 1-5-51 and IT 1-6-51, which operate at a carrier frequency of 2000 c. The cutoff frequencies of the transducer are 70 c for the + or - 3-g range and 100 c for the + or - 9-g range. The deviation from linearity of calibration is less than 3% of full scale, and the effect of transverse accelerations is about 1.5% for full-range acceleration applied in a transverse direction. For an initial inductance level of 70 mh in each of the 2 identical coil subassemblies, the average full-scale variation in inductance is + or - 15%. The effect of cable capacitance are considered.
