EDDY-CURRENT PHENOMENA IN FERRO-MAGNETIC MATERIALS

Abstract

An effort was made to produce a logical transition from the linear theory of eddy currents in solid media to the theory of Ganz (Trans. AIEE 65:177-183, 1946), and to show the applicability of the latter method in typical problems. The losses predicted by the new theory are somewhat higher than those predicted by Rosemberg (Elektrotech. und Maschinenbau 41:701-717, 1923). This result would be expected since the new theory accounts for both time harmonics of current density and phase shifts in the magnetic field. Formulas are presented which show the usefulness of the theory as a design method for inductive and conductive heating installations. (See also AD14561)
