TEST OF WRIGHT PNEUMATIC SAW

Abstract

The Wright 18-in. pneumatic reciprocating saw, a 1-man portable saw, was compared with the 12-in. circular saw and the 24-in. pneumatic 2-man chain saw of the tool set on the standard truck-mounted air compressor. The 8- and 12-in. circular electric saws and the 14- and 20-in. chain electric saws were also compared to determine the suitability of the test item. Operation for 103 hr on various timbering and lumber-cutting operations indicated that the test item performed better, showed more versatility, and was more easily handled than the 24-in. pneumatic chain saw set, although the 24-in. saw was faster in straight-away cutting. The adoption of the test item as standard type was recommended after correction of deficiencies in the control valve handle and the front wall retaining ring.
