THE FACTORIAL COMPOSITION OF THE RELATIVE MOVEMENT TEST

Abstract

A factor analysis was performed on scores from the relative movement (RM) test and 4 other officer classification battery tests to determined the psychological functions measured by the RM test. The results indicated that high scores on the RM test demonstrated a likelihood for high scores on mathematics reasoning, verbal, and spatial references tests. Mathematics reasoning ability was found most important for success on both the regular form and the 20-item from of RM. Verbal and spatial reference abilities are next in importance. In addition, the unspeeded pretest of items for the new parallel form of RM also appeared to require the ability to deal with complex instructions or to grasp the elements of a fairly complex problem situation. Verbal ability is the least important for success on this form.
