Normal Force, Pitching Moment, and Center of Pressure of Eighty Cone-Cylinder-Frustum Bodies of Revolution at Mach Number 2.18

Abstract

A series of force tests were conducted in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory 12-inch wind tunnel at Mach numbers from 1. 5 to 4.04 and angles ofattack to 10 deg. This report presents normal force and pitching moment results obtained at a Mach number of 2.18 for 80 cone-cylinder-frustum configurations of systematically varying geometry. Initial normal force curve slope and center-of-pressure values are compared with first- and second-order potential theories.
