MILLIMETER WAVE SYSTEMS

Abstract

The work leading toward the construction of a high definition radar system operating at 4.3 mm is being continued. Tentative r-f transmitter-receiver circuits have been developed. Emphasis has been placed upon study of scanning methods, with the ultimate conclusion that a mechanical nonresonant scanner can be constructed for use with the millimeter wave system. All equipment is available for initial tests on a six-foot paraboloid antenna; these tests will be started early in the next quarter. Work continued on the development of duplexers using ferrite elements. This initial effort is encouraging. The first magnetron pulser will employ a hard-tube modulator; this appears to be least critical and most versatile for short-pulse applications. Preliminary study of i-f amplifier requirements was begun late in this quarter. (Author)
