HISTORIC PATTERN OF KARA SEA ICINESS,

Abstract

The article is a brief discussion of the iciness pattern in the Kara Sea over centuries. The heterogeneity in the numbers and quality of observations in times less recent than the past two decades complicates the drawing of comparisons between single years, decades, and centuries. A curve of the iciness pattern during the past 366 years is presented, partly grounded on interpolations. A table of iciness expressed in numerical symbols denoting four degrees of the state of the ice cover is depicted by decades for the period 1580 to 1940. (Translator's summary).
