QUARTERLY REPORT NO. 1, PERIOD TO JANUARY 1, 1953

Abstract

After a performance study designed to establish the external configuration for air-droppable antitank land mines containing both a high explosive cylindrical charge and a shaped charge was completed, inert test drops were conducted to determine the effect of soil barriers on various shaped charge configurations. These results combined with a literature survey helped to determine that the mine should contain a shaped charge rather than a high explosive or cylindrical charge. A literature survey regarding the various possible means of fusing the mine was followed by laboratory and field experiments on such fuse components as a tremor switch and magnetic detector. To date the type of influence fuse and the means of sterilization are not definitely established.
