THE ADSORPTION THEORY OF PASSIVITY AND THE FLADE POTENTIAL

Abstract

From quantitative data reported by various investigators, it is concluded that the primary passive film on iron has the following properties: (1) 25-100 A think, (2) equivalent to 0.01 coulomb/cm2, (3) can oxidize CrO2- to CrO4--, (4) follows the (Flade) potential relation -0.58 + .058 PH (volts).
