Teflon-Lined Bearing Improvement.

Abstract

The patent application describes a method of repairing or retrofitting the teflon fabric liner of a spherical and/or self-aligning bearing, that has separated due to poor bonding with the bearing surface, with a metal-backed, teflon liner that includes a metal backing and a teflon skiving heat and pressure bonded thereto, and reinforced with a mechanical interlock. The metal-backed, teflon liner is initially formed into two hemispherical liner sections each inserted in position in the spherical cavity of the bearing-outer race member.
