Process and Apparatus for Large Scale Extrusions.
Abstract
The patent application describes a mechanism for extruding large cross-section articles. It consists of a substantially conventional extruder and die arrangement combined with a series of accumulators interposed in communication between, and receiving and temporarily storing extrudant being pumped thereinto from the extruder at relatively low pressure for positioning the extrudant over a much wider die than normal. Hydraulically-operated rams force the extrudant from the accumulators into the die at relatively high pressure for its extrusion into a large scale item.
