Bilinear Resonance Drive.

Abstract

The patent application describes an optical scanner including a mirror driven about an axis wherein the angular limits are established by a plurality of stops. The oscillatory motion of the device is controlled by two spring elements in combination, a low rate spring element being in force during the used portion of the scan cycle and a second spring rate that is much stiffer producing a very short reversal of motion time. The low rate spring element produces a long period sinusoidal motion that is naturally rather linear during the used scan.
