Corner Cube Shearing Interferometric System.

Abstract

The patent application concerns a corner cube interferometric system for measuring atmospheric modulation transfer functions. A light source passes through the atmosphere and through receiving optics to a beam splitter that divides the light into a pair of beams. The beams pass through path length trimmers and then in and out of corner reflecting cubes through micrometer shear plates and then back to the beam splitter where the beams are recombined. One of the corner cubes has associated with it a scanning piezo-electric path length modulator. The micrometer shear plates are coupled using a shear drum belt. The recombined beam passes through a spectral filter, diffuser and photomultiplier where an output signal is detected and either displayed or recorded.
