A CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FOR ANY DATA BANKING (INFORMATION STORAGE AND RETRIEVAL) PROCESS

Abstract

Study was started to discover and state explicitly the fundamentals of data banking (more commonly called information storage and retrieval). A clear exposition of these fundamentals will be useful in directing the development of equipment to meet particular application requirements. A logical framework or hierarchical tree is displayed that includes all possible data banking processes and shows their similarities and differences. The basis of this framework is the organization of the store and the method of search, not the physical form of either the items of information or the search equipment. (Author)
