Summary Technical Report of the Applied Mathematics Panel, NDRC. Volume 1. Mathematical Studies Relating to Military Physical Research

Abstract

A resume is given of the principle accomplishments of the AMP from 1943 until the end of hostilities. Interference from the dome, used in certain acoustic equipment employed in submarine detection, on the directional pattern was investigated. The scattering cross section of electromagnetic waves by spherical objects is discussed. A study was made of gas dynamics. New developments were made in the study of shock fronts, associated with violent disturbances such as would result from explosions. Problems in mechanics involve particles and rigid bodies and continuum. Relating to underwater ballistics, problems involved various phases in the motion of a projectile.
