THE SCAN-COLUMN INDEX. A BOOK-FORM COORDINATE INFORMATION RETRIEVAL SYSTEM

Abstract

The book-form index requires no searching machine, and the coordinate searching can be done by a clerical person. Each document is entered at just one place, and the documents can be in almost any order. A document entry consists of a single (or multi-) character abbreviation for each term the document possesses, and a document identification. The document identification may be anything from a serial number to a brief abstract; micro-reduced document identifactions are also discussed.
