PRODUCTION OF MILLIMETER AND SUB-MILIMETER ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES BY THE INTERACTION OF PLASMA AND ELECTRON BEAMS WITH HIGH INTENSITY PULSED MAGNETS

Abstract

Theoretical studies were initiated on the production of bremsstrahlung radiation by electron beams injected into high-field magnets. Particular attention is devoted to the analytical description of trajectories to explore the problems of injection and reflection. A program for an IBM 709 computer is prepared to study several (over) facets of the problem. The first phase of the experimental work is aimed at testing the feasibility of injecting electron beams into highfield magnets. To this extent, a system was constructed which comprises a capacitor bank with triggering circuitry and a high-field magnet. The electron beam source, the extractor system, and a drift tube were also developed. (Author)
