POLYMER SEMICONDUCTORS

Abstract

This article deals with studies undertaken at the Institute of Chemical Physics, Academy of Sciences USSR, on the electrical conductivity of several types of polymers with structures con(over) taining long chains of conjugated double bonds. The following polymers are discussed: (1) polymers with a noncyclic conjugated chain, like polyphenylacetylene and its copolymers with hexine or paradiethinylbenzene; (2) polymers with benzene rings in the conjugation chain, like polyphenylene, polyphenylene azo-compounds, and aliphatic-aromatic compounds with quinoid groups; and (3) chelate compounds, like ferrocene derivatives and complexes of percyanoethylene with iron or copper.
