PROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF CERTAIN NATURAL FOODS AGAINST WHOLE-BODY IRRADIATION
Abstract
FEMALE ROCKLAND FARM GUINEA PIGS WERE DIVIDED INTO FOUR GROUPS OF 15 EACH. GROUP A AND B WERE FED A DIET OF BRAN AND OATS OBTAINED FROM A LOCAL SUPPLIER. GROUPS C AND D WERE FED A DIET OF BRAN AND OATS FURNISHED BY THE QUARTERMASTER FOOD AND CONTAINER INSTITUTE. IN ADDITION, GROUPS B AND D RECEIVED A MINERAL SALTS USPPLEMENT. AFTER A ONE MONTH FEEDING PERIOD THE ONLY SUVIVORS WERE: ONE FROM GROUPA) FOUR FROM GROUPSB AND C) AND 8 FROM GROUP D. THE SURVIVORS WERE GIVEN 400 R (AIR DOSE( TOTAL BODY X-IRRADIATION. BY THE END OF THE SEVENTH DAY POST-IRRADIATION THERE WERE NO SURVIVORS IN ANY GROUP.
