SUMMARY OF THE INVESTIGATION OF THE RESPONSE OF CADMIUM SULFIDE

Abstract

Previous investigations to develop photoconducting cadmium sulfide crystals for use as gammaradiation detectors were not successful in producing crystals which would meet the desired military specifications for operational instruments. This investigation has tried to correlate the gamma response to the incident-light response in the visible and near visible parts of spectrum and at the same time obtain greater knowledge of the physical properties responsible for the changes in the conductivity of the cadmium sulfide crystals. No definite correlation was found. Further investigation is necessary to produce the desired crystals. (Author)
