MATERIALS REPORT OF THE APPLIED PHYSICS DEPARTMENT FOR THE YEAR 1959

Abstract

Some of the accomplishments of the Applied Physics Department for the calendar year 1959 are reviewed. Only unclassified research on materials principally in the solid and liquid states are covered. The solid state research includes effort on semi-conductors, non-metallic and metallic magnetic materials, high melting temperature intermetallic alloys and whiskers. The motivation for the solid state research is to understand physical and chemical properties of the materials in terms of fundamental electronic, atomic and molecular processes. Research in liquids is concerned principally with the understanding of ultra-sonic absorption mechanisms. (Author)
