Abstract

The activities of the Institute of Physics imeni P. N. Lebedev of the Academy of Sciences USSR are presented. The material used is based on USSR monographs, periodicals, reports, conference proceedings, and papers published between 19451960. The organizational structure of the Institute is explained, and administrative departments, facilities, laboratories, etc, are listed. Biographical sketches of prominent scientists who were or are now associated with the Institute are included. There is included a list of works published by them between 1955-1960. Library of Congress call numbers are included at the end of the entries when the source is cataloged and available in its collections. An appendix, consisting of an article Institute of Physics imeni P. N. Lebedev of the Academy of Sciences USSR, by D. V. Skobel'tsyn and I. M. Frank, presents a review of the Institute's activities between 1945-1957. (Author)
