INVESTIGATION OF THE FIELD MODULATION PRODUCED BY FLAT SPIRAL SHIMS IN A CYCLOTRON MAGNET

Abstract

The problem of producing a desired field modulation with mechanically simple iron shims on flat pole faces is discussed. The introduction of a spiral modulation of the magnetic field improves the axial stability and allows an independent synchronization of the orbital revolution with the accelerating voltage from a fixed radio frequency oscillator.
