INTERACTIONS BETWEEN STEROIDS AND PROTEINS

Abstract

The present status of knowledge on interaction between steroids and proteins is outlined. General characteristics of these reactions are elaborated, and interactions with special proteins are discussed. Data on structural features in the steroid and the protein molecules, required for interaction, are evaluated; unpublished data are incorporated, including results on the specific corticosteroid-binding globulin (transcortin), and on interaction of steroids with tissue structures. An interpretation of the physiological significance of the phenomena is attempted. (Author)
