METEOR RATE AND RADIANT STUDIES
Abstract
An analysis is made which can be divided into two categories: (1) Radio and radar studies of meteoric ionization, in the following areas: (a) Meteor rate and radiant distributions with applications to the improvement of long-range communications by meteor-burst and meteorscatter modes, (b) Determination of certain optimum system parameters for use in oblique propagation by meteor-scatter and meteor-burst modes, and (c) Measurements of meteoric ionization from extremely small (15th Magnitude) meteors, aimed toward the study of astronomical properties; and (2) Radar astronomy, specifically studies of the sun, moon, and interplanetary gases, including (a) Detection of radar echoes from the sun's corona, (b) Studies of the cislunar ionized gas using radar echoes from the moon, (c) Study of the lunar surface based upon properties of reflected radio waves, and (d) Theoretical investigations of incoherent scattering of radio waves by individual electrons.
