ISOLATION OF DELTA 4-PREGNENE-11 BETA, 17 ALPHA, 20 BETA, 21-TETROL-3-ONE FROM SKELETAL MUSCLE OF NORMAL AND STRESSED RATS AFTER INJECTION OF CORTISOL-4-C14

Abstract

Chemical identification of the radioactive material present in the skeletal muscle of normal and tourniquet-shocked rats after injection of cortisol-4-C14 was undertaken. The 20 beta-hydroxy derivative was isolated from the skeletal muscle of normal and stressed rats but it was not present in the skeletal muscle of eviscerated rats. In normal and stressed rats 20 beta-hydroxy cortisol may originate in an organ other than muscle and be transported to the muscle by the circulating blood. (Author)
