ANALYTICAL STUDY OF DYNAMIC BEARING CAPACITY OF FOUNDATIONS

Abstract

An analytical study was undertaken to develop a general approach for the bearing capacity of foundations subjected to time dependent transient loads. This phase of the investigation has been restricted to cohesive soils. The approach is based on a number of simplifying assumptions which provide an expedient way of calculating the resulting angular rotations as functions of time. Solutions have been developed to permit the designer to readily calculate the maximum angular rotations provided the relation between time and the intensity of the dynamic pulse can be expressed by means of a simple mathematical relation. The resulting differential equation of motion has been evaluated for both an initially peaked triangular pulse and a rectangular pulse. (Author)
