Abstract

The construction of a reinforced concrete foundation for a 25,000-ton press is described. Some 8198 cu m of concrete and 985 tons of steel were used in the foundation which is 17.7-m high and rests on a base 4 x 25 x 40 m. About 80,000 cu m of earth were removed from close proximity to existing building foundations. The entire operation was highly mechanized and carried out n a round-the-clock basis. The work schedule required 400 cu m of concrete to be poured during 24 hr while 600 cu m/24 hr was attained.
