Some Reactions of Peroxydisulfuryl Difluoride

Abstract

The reactions of peroxydisulfuryl difluoride with several substances have been examined. Three new fluorosulfonates, octafluorobis(fluorosulfonato) cyclopentane (C5F8(SO3F)2), tetrafluorobis(fluorosulfonato)ethane (C2F4(SO3F)2) , and tetrafluorobis(fluorosulfonato)sulfur (VI) (SF4(SO3F)2) were produced by direct combination of peroxydisulfuryl difluoride with perfluorocyclopentene (C5F8) and tetrafluoroethylene(C2F4) at room temperature and with sulfur tetrafluoride (SF4) a 128 degrees respectively. These new compounds have been characterized. Structures nave been confirmed by mass, nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectra. A white solid, dioxobis(fluorosulfonato) molybdenum (VI) (MoO2(SO3F)2), was obtained with either molybdenum hexacarbonyl or molybdenum metal.
