THE INVESTIGATION OF HIGHER ORDER TRANSFORMATIONS BY THERMAL ANALYSIS

Abstract

IN HIGHER ORDER TRANSFORMATIONS, LATENT HEAT IS NOT INVOLVED; INSTEAD, SPECIFIC HEAT INCREASES WITH ACCELERATING RAPIDITY UP TO THE TRANSITION TEMPERATURE AND THEN DROPS SUDDENLY. Techniques of differential thermal analysis are described. Results are given for analyses of sodium nitrite, basic beryllium acetate, chromic oxide, dichromates, ammonium nitrate, and copper sulfate pentahydrate. (Author)
