SERVICE MANUAL FOR HELICOPTER RADAR ALTIMETER

Abstract

Service information and operating instructions are presented for the Bell helicopter radar altimeter. The helicopter radar altimeter is integrated into the terrain clearance radar or the forward looking three dimensional radar. The altimeter is a pulse radar which measures the time required for the electromagnetic energy to pass from the transmitter to the ground and back to the receiver. The altimeter receiver was originally designed to be used with a terrain clearance radar. The auxiliary terrain clearance radar transmitter was provided to facilitate use of the altimeter as an independent altitude sensor or as an altitude sensor combined with the terrain clearance and ground mapping radar.
