MAGNETIC MIRROR ACCELERATION OF PLASMOIDS

Abstract

Research is reported on the acceleration of plasmoids by inductive magnetic-mirror systems; this poses the problem of parasitic inductances and leakage of the field, where the coupling coefficient between the primary metal ring and the plasmoid is less than unity. In order to analyze these effects, a numerical integration was performed of the equation of motion for an ideally conducting thin plasmoid ring subject to a timevariable magnetic field of the mirror system.
