THE SCIENCE OF GLASS AT THE EIGHT MENDELEYEV CONGRESS
Abstract
The Eight Mendeleyev Congress, dedicated to the 125-th birthday of the great scientist, took place in Moscow during the second half of March of the current year. Problems in the development of chemical science were discussed at the plenary sessions and at the sessions of the eighteen sections of the congress. Considerable attention was alloted to the problems of the chemistry and technology of silicates, which was the topic of discussion at one of the sections. Approximately 30 reports were given which were devoted to the study of the structure of glass, the creation of new types of glass for various branches of engineering, and other important problems of glass technology.
